El aborto hace referencia a la muerte de un feto humano en el vientre materno, distinguiéndose si es natural o provocado. En España se provocan más de 100 000 abortos al año, ya que se ha decidido legalizar y financiar esta práctica por parte del Estado. A menudo se recurre a eufemismos como «interrupción voluntaria del embarazo» o «píldora anticonceptiva» (siendo abortiva en realidad) para no poner de manifiesto el hecho evidente de que la muerte de un ser humano no es un proceso que se pueda pausar para luego continuar… ni es posible evitar una concepción cuando ya se ha producido.
Es conocida la carta abierta que el conocido abortista Dr. Bernard Nathanson (1992) escribió en 1992, cuando ya se había sumado a las filas provida, explicando cómo consiguieron ese cambio tan grande en la sociedad americana posicionándola a favor del aborto.
Suele ser un tema que no quiere incluirse cuando se tratan cuestiones de Derechos Humanos o conflictos sociales. Una niña de 13 años escribió un poema al respecto y tuvo problemas para defenderlo en clase. Este es el poema:
«A life is a life,
no matter how small.
Seventy-three million people
have been killed in one year
and will be killed again this year, if not more
— when they are completely innocent humans.
They never get to see the light of day
before they are cast away.
They did nothing wrong except exist
and we’re dismissed.
People say women and healthcare
but never think how unfair
—they kill a baby for simply being there!
The Word of God says,
”You knit me together in my mother’s womb.’
How come we never listen to this
and try to send them to a tomb?
I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Your works are wonderful.
His works are wonderful.
A person is a person, no matter how small.
A life is a life—no matter how small.
We often forget this important detail.
This detail could save a life.
Sixty percent of babies who weren’t intended
have died because of this.
Why do people kill
these innocent babies with the pill?
Why do people say
babies in the womb are a mistake-
a thing that needs to be gotten rid of?
Why, why, why?
When you ask someone is murder bad,
they say yes, of course.
But how come when you say
murdering innocent babies is bad,
they shame you?
They say women’s rights and healthcare
but what about the baby’s rights?
That’s what’s unfair.
From the moment they are created,
they are a human person.
They are created in God’s image.
People say women’s rights and healthcare.
That’s say it’s just a clump of cells.
But no one dwells on the fact
that the baby still has
a heartbeat at six weeks.
Boom boom, boom boom.
Nothing compares
to the love a mother has for her baby.
So just maybe we let them
have a chance to live and that love will grow.
Destruction, dismay, dread.
When will people comprehend
that this needs to come to an end?
A life is a life—no matter how small.»
Consecuencias
En los últimos años se ha intentado minimizar las consecuencias negativas de esta práctica para las mujeres embarazadas, como el llamado trauma post-aborto. Asociaciones como AMASUVE (fundada por Leire Navasidas) tratan de darlo a conocer estos fenómenos a la opinión pública.
